Description
GWR Armstrong 517 class 0-4-2T no. 1436. The build of this model is of professional quality, from the Malcolm Mitchell kit with superb cab detail, axle compensation, Slaters wheels, wiper current collection and powered by a fuse protected Portescap RG7 motor and gears unit. Well painted in the GWR 1920-30’s unlined green livery and lightly weathered. A very smooth performer indeed.
This is the third of these Malcolm Mitchell 517’s that I have had. The other two I stripped the paint and had Warren Haywood repaint them both in GWR’s earlier fully lined green and Indian red livery. They both sold very quickly. The paint on this model is too good to need a repaint, but it could happen if a new owner wanted a 517 in that earlier very attractive livery. However, in saying that, this model has a more modern style of bunker and the cab has an enclosed roof. Whether the real loco had those features with the earlier paint scheme is open for research.
